Innergaze
There’s something particularly charming about the combination of people who bring us this week’s download. On one side of you have Pal Joey, a foundational yet consistently underrated figure of New York house music since the early 90s. On the other you have Innergaze, the duo of Aurora Halal and Jason Letkiewicz (also known as Steve Summers) who are doing a fine job of representing New York’s contemporary underground house scene. where they meet is on “I Can’t,” a track from Joey’s newest moniker named Walk The Dog; and while the original is presently elusive, the remix suggests it was a good place to start. Fans of 100% Silk’s roster (which includes Innergaze) will find much to like about the spacey ostinato stabs spreading stardust over a juicy Juno bass line. Punctuated by titular vocals and hissing drum programming, the tune evokes the period in house just before Joey started to make a splash. Our thanks to Innergaze, Joey, and Coco Machete for making this available for free.
Walk The Dog, “I Can’t” (Innergaze Remix)
The beat is defintely old school. I don’t understand why so many new songs refer to those early house beats. In my opinion the vocal kills the song. Not my cup of tea.
I concur. But I definitely like the bassline, maybe a slightly punchier dub would be a good way to go?
