Download of the Week: Barker & Baumecker, Analogical

Sam Barker and Andy Baumecker have been on a roll since debuting their collaboration in 2010. It’s not been the smoothest roll — their sound is too unpredictable and spiky — but its trajectory has always been upwards. After two singles for Ostgut Ton and one for Analogue Cops’ Restoration Records, B&B have earned an album for Ostgut, due out in September. This week’s download was grabbed from the cutting room floor, although it’s good enough to have earned a spot on the proper release. The steady wobble of “Analogical” recalls riding a horse on crackling ice, a sensation bolstered by a chilly, finely chopped tone whipping over the top. If this is any indication, listeners are in for quite a treat when Transsektorial drops September 10th. Thanks to Barker and Baumecker for making this available for free.
