It’s been a long two weeks sprawled across three countries and the entirety of Germany, but I’m back from the land of many vests and faux hawk mullets (as a reference point). I can see why so many have uprooted themselves to set up shop there: the culture, food and sights are fantastic, so much so I won’t bother trying to describe them all here. I do need to send some love to a couple places, though. Club 11 in Amsterdam has some of the finest dining, kindest wait staff and best booking I experienced all trip. Shame they’re being forced to close in a month’s time so their building can be torn down for other commercial needs. Freebase Records in Frankfurt, home to the buzz kings of Oslo, is a must-stop-shop for the latest slabs. And just down the street you’ll find some delectable, old fashioned German cuisine at Zwölf Aposteln (12 Apostles), a cozy little brau haus. And last but hardly least, the dance god’s altar in Berlin, Berghain/Panoramabar, especially their garden parties and beer garden. Many hugs also go out to Achim for taking me on a whirlwind tour of the best new arrivals at Hard Wax. Gosh, I’ve just returned and I’m already anticipating my return, though next time calls for a heavy dose of German lessons. But now that I’m back, LWE is back on a daily (or close to it) schedule, so keep it here.
