As part of our year end round up, LWE wants to ask you, our readers, to contribute a mix for our podcast series. Whether you’re touring Europe every weekend or bedroom mixing for yourself, we want to hear your mixes — and the best one will be our last podcast of the year. The winners will also receive a prize package from !K7. Interested? Good, we thought you might be. Full rules and deadline after the jump.
So what exactly are we looking for? All mixes should be between 45-50 minutes long, exclusive to LWE (meaning not publicly available elsewhere), include a comprehensive tracklist, and sent as a 320kbps mp3 through filesharing utilities such as YouSendIt or Sendspace to editor@littlewhiteearbuds[dot]com. They are due no later than 12 p.m. CST on December 12th. Late entries will not be scored.
We will score your mixes based on six criteria:
Depth: Is your mix ripped from the charts, a slate of stale house classics, or obscure yet middling? Mix it up.
Relevance: If you’re been reading LWE for a minute you probably have a sense of the sound we’re looking for. Sets of all hip-hop, blog-house, prog., trance, juke or drum n’ bass (which are fine enough for their own purposes) will not score well in this competition.
Transitions: We want to hear compelling blends/combinations executed such that we’re clamoring for the next one. Slapping the fader across, dull mechanical perfection and painful juxtapositions are all turn offs.
Technique: Does your use of EQ/levels/effects leave us cringing or awe-struck? Show off and make sure it sounds good.
Following the Rules: This should be an area where entries score the most points easily. Points will be taken off for each minute longer than 50 and for mp3s sent at bitrates lower than 320kbps. Nail this!
Entertainment Value: Your selections should make us want to move and keep our interest throughout the mix’s length. Last year’s winner, Francisco Coelho, turned in an exemplary mix that provides a good guide for what we’re looking for.
The mix with the highest score will be featured in our podcast series and its creator will win copies of two !K7 DJ-Kicks CDs from 2011 and a Soul Clap/Wolf+Lamb vinyl exclusives 12″. Second place wins two !K7 CDs and third wins one copy. We highly encourage you to suggest this contest to any DJ trying to get a little more exposure or just interested in competing. Feel free to ask questions about the contest in the comments section. Again, mixes due no later than 12 p.m. CST on December 12th. Late entries will not be scored. Good luck and get mixing!
Hi there
I’m interested in entering the compeition, but I have one question: how do I send my mix?
As said above, “All mixes should be between 45-50 minutes long, exclusive to LWE (meaning not publicly available elsewhere), include a comprehensive tracklist, and sent as a 320kbps mp3 through filesharing utilities such as YouSendIt or Sendspace to editor@littlewhiteearbuds[dot]com.”
Hello! Just listening to last year’s mix…quite boring actually..Many of the criteria of whom you select the winner mix don’t really apply to the last year’s winner.
If it’s so boring you’re welcome to do better and try to win this year’s competition.
“If it’s so boring you’re welcome to do better and try to win this year’s competition.”
LOL! Not sure if you heard this joke…
Joke:
How many Djs does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Answer:
Well over a thousand, because each DJ thinks they can do it better…
Oh what the hell… It’s in our blood as DJs to critique other DJs. I guess I better get to work then…
imo
I agree with Dragos Rusu! maybe they didn’t get much entries? any chance you tell us how many mixes you got last year?
From the winning entry page: “After dedicating many, many hours to judging more than 30 mixes, LWE’s panel of judges has picked our favorite.”
Coelho’s mix might not have been to your taste but it more than fulfilled all our criteria for an excellent mix. Looking forward to hearing you prove yourself, too.
Is there a standard title required to name the mix after compilation before sending it?
@Msendy
Nothing standard, but it helps to put your name in the ID tag and file name for easy reference.
do you need a tracklist be included into the mail with a link ?
@bocca One way or another we need to receive a tracklist with the mix, whether it’s part of a zip file with the mix or in the body of the email.
Hey guys,
It’s not what we think it is what the panel thinks. As the moderator said, If you did not feel Francisco’s mix then prove them wrong. So less talking & more mixing guys… May the best mix win…
Eish, just submitted mine.
Just relistening to the set I just recorded to smash the editors ears.Wanted to much with this mix so I’m sure mine doesn’t get selected but worth the effort I guess
nervous for this but i’ll give it a go!
When are the winners to be announced? Looking forward to seeing the winner.
Made a last minut recording yesterday night and send it in. Do contenders get a conformation mail? Would be shit to have my set in you’re spambox or something 😉
The winning podcast will be published December 26th.
We are not sending confirmation emails but we did receive yours, G.
Thanks for the fast answer.

The competition is now closed, sorry if you haven’t made the deadline.
