Thanks to supersleuths Kuri and buftontufton in LWE’s comments, the shroud of mystery surrounding “Sect 1” has dissipated and Detroit’s own DJ Bone stands in its place. I wish I could say I was more versed in DJ Bone’s music, but I’m glad the “Sect 1” release has shined a bright spotlight on the obviously quite talented producer. According to the Sect Records Myspace page: “The producers appearing on the label typically have a substantial back catalogue of their music released on vinyl. This is one reason why they are featured, as a mark of respect and a continuation of their output through this medium, so well suited to the style and performance of the music.” We look forward to more from Sect and DJ Bone and will keep readers posted when these tunes are available commercially. As a bonus, check out “Higher,” the third track from “Sect 1”

The disc’s three songs could have been made any time over the last 15 years, with any assortment of basic equipment and by any number of people and the result would be the same — some of the best dance music I’ve heard to date. I don’t know when we’ll be fortunate enough to hear more from Sect or if it will see a wider release, but for all those passionate about house and techno I sincerely hope there’s more to be had and soon. Mystery producer revealed here. […]
