Those Soul Clap boys, Eli and Charles, know how to blog, DJ and look smooth on magazine covers. But can they remix? The newest release on the confusingly named q007 Records answers this question with a resounding “hell yeah!” The guys reworked “Pool Night” by Euphoria Chicago empresario, Adam Collins, and did so without ever hearing the original. Free of the original’s expectations, Soul Clap goes for a deep, tech house angle heavy on percussion and well versed in melody. Its sliced-up motif gives way to a more relaxed version and twinkling pads, conjuring a party that’s moved from the terrace to the in-ground pool below, relentless stars providing the only light for getting down. As Eli and Charles have signaled their intent to continue producing, we’ve got many more joints like this one to look forward to. And since they’re ever so generous, they’ve offered LWE an exclusive download of the track. Snap/clap it up!
Also, I’ll be DJing tomorrow at Schubas (3159 N Southport Ave) for ASCAP’s UnderneathOnTop party, from 6:40-7:20 p.m. Short and early, I know; but feel free to stop by if you’re in the neighborhood, at least 18 and feel like giving a $5 to the Street Level Youth Media fund. I’ll be there for dinner beforehand — come share a beer!
i had no idea it was that short and that early. yikes. if girlfriend doesn’t end up coming over tonight (50/50) i’ll meet you @ schubas as soon as i wake up, hopefully with a new track in hand.
Thanks thanks thanks! We love l.w.e.
