DOTW: Apparat, Sayulita

Having crafted such a recognizable and well loved sound since debuting in 2001, Sascha Ring — Apparat to his legion of admirers — was an ideal candidate for a !K7’s DJ-Kicks mix CD. As his first ever mix compilation (out October 26th) which also contains his first new solo track since 2007, it’s safe to say it’s an opportunity well spent. “Sayulita” is considerably faster and more techno-oriented than fans of his 2007 album Walls might expect but retains all of the dream-like charm found on so much of Ring’s work. At first cultivating a set of brain-tingling drones, the tune breaks into a 130BPM sprint that conjures a high speed night drive, ringing guitar pings and swipes only adding to the tune’s propulsiveness. It’s in the same vein as Ulrich Schnauss’ melancholic material but eminently more danceable. Our thanks to Ring and !K7 for making this delight available.
