DOTW: FaltyDL, St. Marks (Sepalcure Remix)

Although bass music is most widely known as a UK phenomenon, North America and New York in particular can increasingly claim to be crucial participants in the scene. That’s thanks in no small part to the likes of the NY-based FaltyDL and Sepalcure, whose inventive work keeps audiences on both sides of the Atlantic tittering with excitement. It’s quite natural, then, for these forces to meet musically; this week’s download finds Sepalcure offering their interpretation of FaltyDL’s Rush Hour-released “St. Marks.” In keeping with the original’s shambling, hissing movements, the duo complicate the rhythms to keep things interesting and jam in their own bevy of samples. As a torrent of vocals announce, “We’ll join hands!” the tune swells like blood rushing to the cheeks of an embarrassed person. Befitting of a group often branded “lovestep,” their remix conjures the welling up of emotions where the original captured the bustle of a busy square. Our thanks to Sepalcure and FaltyDL for making the track available for free.
