Elgo Records was first seen as the home base of label founder Sam Shepard, the immensely gifted producer best known as Floating Points. But since then it’s also been the launching pad for such London-based talents as Fatima and FunkinEven. Recently these two worked together on an EP called Yellow Sound, the title track of which is this week’s download. It’s a downbeat cut that still bristles with energy, due in part to fuzzy organ vamp wiggling over the top of a crowd-filled atmosphere. Just as much verve oozes from Fatima’s enthusiastic chorus, praising the “Purple sky / yellow sound.” Clocking in at a scant three minutes, “Yellow Sound” could easily go on twice as long, but we’re just glad the aural party stops by long enough to lend us some cheer.
