On Christmas Eve, Kyle Hall donned his digital Santa suit and stocked his Soundcloud account with a lovely untitled tune. It came wrapped in more information than listeners usually get about most dance tracks: a list of instruments used (lush Juno 106 bass, popping Roland SP404 percussion, and a few others) and a shout out Karizma for the inspiration. Today Hall was just generous, making “untitled” available for free — our go-to for the download of the week. The track bears more in common with the Detroit artist’s earlier material, riding a wiggling bass line between assertive kick and snare hits. Its easygoing pads tend to flare up unexpectedly, like crackling heat lightning coursing through a muggy summer night. Whether or not it’s actually a recent creation, it’s a nice addition to Hall’s catalog which can be yours for free, with our thanks.
