DOTW: Tyson, After You’re Gone (Joe Goddard Remix)

As the members of Hot Chip continue to expand their horizons beyond the group we’re learning the areas in which each excels. For Joe Goddard, that seems to be vocal-clad house music with the double jointed rhythms of UK garage. Following on his well received and benevolently remixed single “Gabriel,” Goddard has remixed the track “After You’re Gone” by his compatriot, producer/vocalist Tyson. In his hands the track is moody and driven from behind by a purring bass line, an assortment of shakers orbiting around Tyson’s vocals like a swarm of insects. Despite the interwoven synth leads and rough drums there’s plenty of room for Tyson’s androgynous voice delivering an emotional and woeful tale. It’s a little like what Sylvester might sound like if he was teleported to the 21st century — dark, full bodied and a whole lot of fun. Our thanks to Tyson and Joe Goddard for making this treat available.
