Icicles for breakfast

Simian Mobile Disco, “I Believe” [Wichita] (buy)
I’m not sure why, but it doesn’t seem like SMD has nearly the profile in the States as they do abroad, especially in comparison to their French counterparts Justice. Their debut, Attack Decay Sustain Release, is certainly better written and more sensibly recorded; it’s also able to do more than durrr, which seems to be the noise that powers the bulk of †. “I Believe” taps into my weakness for a well-sung pop song like a laser-guided drill. Simon Lord’s limber pipes and stackable harmonies evoke nineties nostalgia for whatever reason, echoing inside the gritty/pretty limbs of the synth motif. I wish more bands would make synth pop this good instead of finding new ways to be the Postal Service or, on the other end of the spectrum, Klaxons. Anyways, pick this up if you can find it in your country. It won’t be released here until September 11th, great!

Djuma Soundsystem, “Les Djinns” (Trentemøller remix Invasion re-edit) [Get Physical Music] (buy)

Out Hud, “It’s For You” (Rub N’ Tug Panarava remix) [Deaf, Dumb & Blind/Breakbeat Science] (buy)

Trentemöller’s remix of Les Djinns is super delicious fresh. Many thanks!
