Download of the Week: Lindstrøm, Rà-àkõ-st

With his last album, Six Cups Of Rebel, it sort of seemed Hans-Peter Lindstrøm had gone off the reservation, retreating into a self-created musical world few could truly understand. Some worried he wouldn’t be able to find his way back. But with the daunting to pronounce “Rà-àkõ-st,” the precursor his second album of 2012 (Smallhans), Lindstrøm assures us he still has the dance floor in sight. This first single, which arrives in an extended form courtesy of fellow space cadet Todd Terje, rides a hard-nosed groove through some familiar grooves. Along the way the tune cuts through some oddly dizzying progressions that remind us he’s still wild; but by and large “Rà-àkõ-st” is a pleasant, floor-pleasing ride many will be happy to take. Our thanks to Lindstrøm and Smalltown Supersound for making this available.
