[Mowar]
The label Mowar has described Robert Bosco as a techno producer, but there can be little doubt that “Login Exact” is a house track, or that the Italian talent has spent many long evenings absorbing everything that he can glean from 90’s releases. The original version starts with a rumbling, shuddering drum pattern that recalls the tribal/Tenaglia style, before evocative Wave-style techy chords kick in. Thankfully, Bosco is more than just a deft copyist; an attention to detail and skillful composition see a resonating vocal snippet coincide with a brief yet effective breakdown and later on, jazzy keys augmenting the arrangement.
The alternate version combines dubby beats with tranced out chords — that’s trance with a lowercase “t,” reminiscent of Alvarado’s Sun Children project — while Offkey’s Matt O’Brien earns his stripes as a remixer. Ramping up the tempo, his take on “Login Exact” is populated by eerie riffs and chiming bells that steadily veer into a jarring cacophony of sound. It’s a perfectly weighted, slightly creepy counterweight to Bosco’’s original — and proves that some of the strongest releases are still shaped by a combination of inventive productions and judicious A&Ring.
Bosco is an underrated artist. Glad to see him getting some coverage.
