LWE sat down with Will Saul to talk about his labels, to quiz him on his new project, CLOSE, and to find out how winning an amateur DJ comp helped launch his career. He also mixed together our 166th exclusive podcast; truly mesmerizing and packed full of unreleased gems, it’s the perfect antidote for your weekend hangover.
aus music
Bicep, Stash EP
The four tracks that make up Bicep’s latest EP for Aus Music, Stash, bristle with sheen but suffer from a certain lack of imagination.
Cottam, Relapse EP
Almost exactly a year on from his last release on Aus Music, Cottam returns with another contemplative three-track foray into the deep, rolling recesses of his musical mind.
George FitzGerald, Child Remixes
Aus Music follows up George FitzGerald’s Child EP with a remix package featuring two from Gerd (as Geeeman and NY Stomp) and one by Gerry Read.
Bicep Vs, You/Don’t EP
Biceps debut on Aus Music feels more like flirtation than full-on stylistic evolution — a safe exploration of a sound that’s been pretty thoroughly mined at this point.
LWE Podcast 122: Midland
Midland created LWE’s 122nd exclusive podcast, a mammoth perfect example of a timeless journey through sounds and styles that will become an instant fixture on your playlists.
Midland, Placement EP
Midland follows up last year’s solid Through Motion EP with another slick package of subtly refined house on Aus Music.
Lee Jones, The Moose Mingles EP
The Moose Mingles EP is something of a return to form for Lee Jones, hitting many of the same notes as past Aus Music releases with contemporary accents.
Cottam, Deep Deep Down
To say that Cottam has risen to the occasion with Deep Deep Down, his biggest 12†yet, honestly might be something of an understatement.
George FitzGerald, Silhouette EP
The Silhouette EP, brings together a growing talent of UK house, George FitzGerald, and another fan of asymmetric house, John Roberts.
SCB, Loss/FutureUnknown
“Loss” marks SCB’s debut outside the Hotflush family of imprints, and despite the downer of a title it’s a trip outside his usual sound into sunnier territories.
Ramadanman & Appleblim, Void 23
Void 23 finds three incredibly talented producers struggling to articulate what they’re trying to accomplish over nine minutes.
Al Tourettes & Appleblim, Lipsmacker
Appleblim and Al Tourettes’ first single of all original material lands on Will Saul’s Aus Music imprint a little off balance.
Various Artists, All Night Long EP’s 1 & 2
Dubstep may have found a novel approach to its inherent darkness and sparseness in techno; might there be an alternate path, though, one in which dubstep finds less subterranean manifestations in the dapper grooves of house? Aus Music, the debonair and slightly experimental tech-house imprint founded by Will Saul and Fin Greenall, answered in the affirmative with its recent and astounding Appleblim & Komonazmuk rework of (Greenall-fronted) Sideshow’s “If Alone.” The label continues its genre-melding trek with two new EPs of exclusive tracks from All Night Long, Saul’s new mix celebrating Aus’s twentieth release. Though never quite reaching the sublime heights of “If Alone,” Saul has curated four generally strong sides of house music in flux.
Lee Jones, As You Like It
[Aus Music] Since the beginning of my techno/house tenure I’ve been a huge Lee Jones fan. As the driving force behind My My’s Songs for the Gentle album he fused tiny fragments of sound into a cohesive aural statement which displayed how unexpectedly vibrant micro house could be. His arranging style carried over well to […]
